Information
The rose variety Greetings to Aachen (syn. ‘Salut d’Aix la Chapelle’, ‘White Willow Glen’) is a pearl pink, later creamy white colored floribunda rose that was introduced by Philipp Geduldig in 1909. The rose was bred by L. Wilhelm Hinner from a cross between the remontant rose ‘Frau Karl Druschki’ and the tea hybrid ‘Franz Deegen’. It was named after the city of Aachen , where Philipp Geduldig worked as a gardener. This rose has a special significance for international rose breeding: it is considered the first floribunda rose. The English rose breeder David Austin sees it as the ideal predecessor of his English roses , which he bred from the 1960s onwards, while Peter Beales describes this rose as a variety of a modern China rose.
